Certified Local Government Annual Meeting


Communities participating in the Certified Local Government program are required to attend educational meetings on historic preservation topics. The AHC hosts an annual statewide CLG workshop, often in conjunction with a CLG community, for preservation commission members.

The workshop, held in Montgomery or a CLG community, is in a one- or two-day format. Information on survey requirements for local districts, developing and applying design guidelines, running historic preservation commission meetings, and the CLG grant program are typically on the agenda. National speakers who discuss topics ranging from the economic advantages of historic preservation to design guideline enforcement are often present. The meeting is a great opportunity for preservation commission members from around the state to share information and solutions to common problems.


This workshop provides annual training for local historic preservation commission members and staff to meet Certified Local Government (CLG) requirements.  Communities interested in establishing a local historic preservation planning program to meet CLG requirements are also encouraged to attend.
